Robert P. Welding has played guitar and drums for over 18 years and has taught at Hi Line Music for 12 years. His time at Hi Line Music has given him the experience of working with a diverse population of learners. As the son of record producer, ethnomusicologist, jazz & blues historian, musician, and author, Pete Welding, Robert was exposed to numerous styles and genres of music. At the age of 8 his father taught him some basic guitar. He went on to play other instruments in Elementary and Jr. High schools before he picked up the guitar again when he was 17. Robert is driven to learn and explore all areas of musical expression. He worked at the Chaffey College Music Library while attending the music education program there (completed courses: Music Appreciation, Music Fundamentals, Record Production, Electronic Music, Latin Jazz Band, Beginning Class Piano, Guitar Ensemble, Musicianship 3a & b, Harmony and Intermediate Musicianship 3a & b, and ! Elementary Class Voice). He also studied and played with the Pomona College Gamelan Ensemble (1996-1997) and with the Citrus College Jazz Ensemble. Robert performs in and around the Orange County, the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, and Northern California. He has been a member of a variety of musical acts including jazz combos Old Star King and Trio of Four, rock group Virgo Serena, experimental ambient noise group Vulcanizadora, the Composers Collective at University of California at Riverside, and a local church band.
